I was catching up with an old friend a few weeks ago when it came up that I had been working at a coffee shop downtown. She replied with, "OOOOOH!.... you're adorable." Another friend of mine sent an email, comforting me after I expressed my lack of enthusiasm for having a second job, by saying that my life looked like a movie. You know, the charming coffee shop girl/photographer who meets a cute guy who likes his coffee strong and black- all set to the soundtrack of an Iron and Wine song.
I haven't been able to stop thinking about these comments and how glamorous my life was made out to sound from the outside. I find it humorous really. Mostly because my water heater broke two weeks ago while my landlord's out floating the Grand Canyon. I have to re-light the pilot late at night so that a little bit of hot water is ready for me in the morning before it goes out again. That, or get up extra early to light it so that my shower is at least warm. Oh and I don't currently have a desk because I can't find one to fit in my teeny tiny (albeit cozy) house. I do most of my work from the kitchen counter. And tonight, while out on a wonderful walk with my pooch I went to take a beautiful picture of her white fur glowing in the sunset, and she did this:
So, so glamorous. (Not to mention the poop she found and ate about 5 minutes before this.) It was at that moment that I realized just how glorious my very unglamorous life is. I can't explain it really, but despite broken water heaters and uncomfortable working environments, things feel good lately. And I'm happy. So cheers to pooping in the sunset - and to all the quirky little things that make my life pretty damn interesting. I would have it no other way.
